After the performance in Germany, I flied from Frankfurt to London.
Last year I’ve got an offer to film me from Mr. Martin Cooper in London. He is an editor of documentaries. The films he has edited have won RTS Awards and been nominated for Emmy Awards. Now he is making a documentary of calligraphers. For this film, he features twelve calligraphers from around the world, including me. It will be presented in film festivals and broadcasted in a program on the BBC.
This is a meeting place with Mr. Cooper in Regent’s Park in London.
In the week end I could make a time to visit Royal Academy of Arts with Mr. Cooper. We were so lucky that it was a fine day and just an opening day of the exhibition “Abstract Expressionism” on Saturday 24th.
POLLOCK, KLINE, DE KOONING, ROTHCO, NEWMAN, SAM FRANCIS, MARK TOBEY …….
After London I went to Paris by Eurostar.
The first day in Paris, I visited Fine Art Cube in a suburb area of Paris. It’s a studio of a photographer Mr.Gérard Rancinan and a writer Ms. Caroline Gaudriault. Mr. Gérard Rancinan is taking portraits in parallel with his very popular works.
He features artists and iconic people of the XX and XIXst centuries. For example, Fidel Castro, Yasser Arafat, the Pope, Dalai Lama, Roy Lichtenstein, Paul McCarthy, Damien Hirst, Yan Pei Ming, Opalka, Pierre&Gilles etc. His first portrait was Antoni Tàpies in 1978 as a photo shows. Then he is continuing to make portraits since Tàpies.
To make a next portrait, he will come to my studio in Japan to shoot me in this winter.

Next day, I had a one-day trip from Paris to Marseille to visit a gallery who contacted to me the other day. Blue sky and green sea was shining in the beautiful sunlight.
I’m glad that the gallery holds my exhibition for three weeks in October 2017.

I’m now thinking about the exhibition ‘LIFE’ ten days after the end.
Many people came to see the show and told me various impressions. Most of them were thinking of their own life in front of ‘LIFE’ pieces on a wall. In other words, they seemed to take my message as a private matter, rather than a social matter. It’s OK however viewers have their own impression, but I can’t help thinking about a peculiarity in Japan. I’m worried that they might become inward-looking and indifferent to society. I hope now these worries are unfounded and groundless. And I’m looking forward to hold ‘LIFE’ exhibition in Europe.

The Exhibition ‘LIFE’ closed yesterday.
Thank you for your visit.
‘Our society consists of various people.’
This was my motivation for this exhibition and a power to make a lot of variation. I’m glad that Many people came to see the show and had various impression.
“It reminds me the faces and figures of my friends.
365 ‘LIFE’ pieces on papers suggested me the importance of my daily life.
I was sitting in front of pieces for a long time, then encouraged very much.
I could find the piece which represents the past, the present and the future of my life.”
It’s my pleasure that this exhibition could be a chance to think about our ‘LIFE’.
I’m looking forward to seeing you again in the next exhibition.
Thank you.

There is no end to the number of people who die due to war and starvation. There is no end to suicides and solitary death. The gap between the rich and poor is widening and a society of the unknown dead is deepening. Intolerance of diversity is spreading in our world.
In times like these, I hope this exhibition will be a chance to think about our ‘LIFE’.

Exhibition “HOMAGE to YU-ICHI by THE 7th TEN-SAKU-KAI”
Yu-ichi Inoue (1916-1985) is a famed calligrapher representing the 20th century. This Exhibition is held by artists who are deeply influenced by Yu-ichi Inoue, exploring to make new history of calligraphy after him. It is held once in two year and I participate in the 7th Ex. at the first time. The fact that I encountered Yu-ichi’s works in Kyoto in my thirties made me to be a calligrapher.
